I am staring at a blank computer screen, it is hot outside, and it is time for a website column. Chocolate might help the creative juices, but I am dieting as always. There are at least a dozen other things I could whine about – some big and some little –but I am struck with how much is right in my life by the grace of God and through no work of my own.
My Christian parents and their unconditional love tops this list. The love and companionship of brothers, sisters and friends is also on the list. Plus the wonderful colleagues and fellow believers I have been blessed to know in seven different churches.
I have my physical needs met with abundance. The list could go on and on, but it is much like many of your lists – filled with people and relationships, with meaningful work, and periods of rest.
Sometimes we are tempted to look back at life the way it was and want it to be like that again. I might remember with joy when I was taking care of my nephew and lived close to that family. But if I was truly back there, I wouldn’t have the joy of his beautiful wife and seven miraculous children.
Each period of our lives has its own joys and its own wonders – its own sorrows and shadows. I am choosing on this hot day to praise God for the joys and wonders of September 2011. I hope you join me.
